Industrial maintenance workers provide industries with a variety of skills necessary to keep the lights on and the line moving. While each employer will utilize your skills in various ways, typical responsibilities include keeping machine parts lubricated, maintaining critical components for each machine, and performing other routine maintenance throughout the facility. 

Typical day-to-day tasks include:

• Starting machines and observing mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
• Reading work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
• Inspecting or testing damaged machine parts, and marking defective areas or advising supervisors of repair needs.
• Reassembling machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
• Dismantling machines and removing parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
