Disability Services

The University of Arkansas East Arkansas Community College (UAEACC) is committed to providing equal access to educational opportunities for qualified students with disabilities. UAEACC fully recognizes and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability.

Disability Services works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure reasonable accommodations are provided, allowing students equitable access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities while maintaining academic standards. Accommodations are determined on an individualized basis according to documented needs.

Requesting Accommodations

Students seeking accommodations should contact Disability Services in the Welcome Center as early as possible. To ensure accommodations are in place by the start of the semester, students are encouraged to submit requests and supporting documentation at least two weeks before classes begin.

Accommodation Process

  1. Submit a Disability Services Request Form.
  2. Provide documentation from a qualified medical or licensed professional.
  3. Documentation should be current (generally within the last three years) and clearly:
    • Identify and diagnose the disability;
    • Describe the functional limitations related to learning or campus participation; and
    • Include recommended accommodations when appropriate.
  4. Disability Services will review the documentation and engage in an interactive process with the student to determine reasonable accommodations.
  5. When accommodations are approved, Disability Services will communicate accommodation information to instructors and other appropriate college personnel as necessary.

Early College Students

Early College students may submit a current high school 504 Plan or Individualized Education Program (IEP) in place of the Disability Services Request Form. These documents will be reviewed to determine reasonable accommodations within the college environment, and UAEACC will strive to mirror approved accommodations to the extent appropriate in the postsecondary setting.

Confidentiality

All disability-related information and documentation are maintained confidentially in accordance with applicable federal and state laws. Students are encouraged to communicate with Disability Services regarding changes in their needs or circumstances throughout the academic year.
